2019-2020 Season Highlights

(Apart from Crufts)

Prestbury International Tour

In August 2019, Will entered the International Tour Event at Prestbury with both Aston and Rudi.
The International Tour is a series of events used to help select the squad for senior GB team so Will, aged 13. was competing against some of the very best senior handlers in the country.
Each event has one agility run and one jumping run and the results of the two runs are combined for overall placings

RECORD BREAKER!!

Both dogs went clear in the jumping round, putting them in a strong position before the agility round. Again both dogs went clear – a real achievement to put together four consecutive clear rounds on challenging courses that top handlers were finding hard to get round. Now it was a matter of waiting for the results to be combined:

Prestbury Results:

* Will and Rudi 1st place overall

* Will and Aston 2nd place overall

* Will became the youngest handler ever to win an international tour event
* And the only handler ever to finish 1st and 2nd in the same international tour event!

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS

* Championship shows are only open to grade 7 dogs – the elite!
* Two runs – one agility, one jumping
*Results are combined with the top 20 go to final agility run
* Winner of each Championship show gets a ‘ticket’ to run in the Championship final at Crufts
* Aston and Rudi reached 6 Championship finals between them last year.

BRETFORD CHAMP SHOW

* Will and Aston reached the final.

After a lovely clear round on a very technical course Aston went into the lead!

At the end of the final Aston had finished 2nd to win a reserve ticket (Will was 13 at the time)
The youngest ever ticket winner was 15, so Will has his sights on another record in 2020!

Will and Aston were presented with their trophy by judge for the day Martin Reid – a British International Agility Handler who is one of Will’s agility heroes!

The Agility Club Championship Show

The Agility Club Show is one of the biggest shows of the year and the Championship Competition here attracts a huge field of the country’s elite handlers. Will and Rudi ran superbly in the two qualifying rounds to once again make the final.

The final saw Rudi run a fast clear to finally finish in 4th place in one the most keenly contested Champ shows of the year.

OJAC 2019

One of the fun highlights for junior handlers each year is OJAC (Open Junior Agility Championships) organised by British International Ant Clark. One of the more unusual events here is the ‘Speed Off’ where the fastest dogs take on a course consisting only of jumps and tunnels and designed for speed. Normally medium height dogs, like Rudi, might be at a disadvantage running against larger faster dogs as, in this event, all heights compete against each other. Will and Rudi needed to finish in the top 5 to qualify for the British Agility Championships Speed final:

The run was quick enough for the pair to reach the final where they again went clear to finish in 3rd place (behind two very quick collies!).
